Creative Writing Contest

Lenoir City High School

1st Semester 2023-24

In the first semester of the 2023-4 school year, Angela Crabtree, teacher of the junior/senior writing classes at Lenoir City High    School, selected poetry as the literary form for the Creative Writing Contest sponsored by the Authors Guild of Tennessee.

The first- and second-place winners in Ms. Crabtree’s two classes are linked under this notice. The students were not assigned particular subjects or themes but were encouraged to write from their personal experiences and viewpoints. As you will see, the poems are honest and personal, and sometimes reflect harsh realities in each student’s unique perspective on life. They are all well-written and skillfully create word pictures of place and time.

The Authors Guild of Tennessee is proud to publish these outstanding literary accomplishments on our website.

“Meet the Author” with Deana Charcalla

AGT member Deana Charcalla will be appearing as the guest author at two “Meet the Author” events the first week in March at schools in the area of West Virginia where she grew up. On March 6, she will be at Montcalm Elementary School in Montcalm. On March 7, she will be at the Lashmeet School in her hometown of Matoka, West Virginia.

Deana was invited to the Lashmeet School by the daughter of her favorite teacher from fourth grade who fostered Deana’s love of reading by letting her select her books from a recommended list.

Deana will be speaking and reading aloud from some of her books to the assembly of all the students in the first through sixth grades in both schools. After her talk, Deana will answer questions and offer her books for sale to the parents of the children.
