The name is Hume—Sue Hume. I guess I am a turncoat as I hail from the United Kingdom. I am happy to be an American these days. I still bear traces of my English accent, but the blood is Scottish—never confuse the two!

When I was 11, I wrote a story about a rescued squirrel that was read to my class. That same
year, our whole class was encouraged to write stories in ‘booklet’ format to read to first graders. Mine was about a fairy. At age 15, I wrote a story that was 26 pages long (52 sides). My English teacher, also our head mistress, told my mother that I should write.

There is a reason that most of us write for the love of it; we cannot easily make a living from it. With practicality coming first, I earned a degree in Business & Finance. I subsequently switched to a career in healthcare, where I enjoyed working as a radiographer. Retirement has enabled me to rediscover writing.

Historically, my genre has been poetry. I recently ventured into pastures new by writing a murder mystery. My writing is influenced by observations of humankind. My desire is that my writing will engender some form of reaction from readers—a smile, laughter, pause for thought.

In the spring of 2026, I joined the Chota Writing Circle, which offers a wealth of knowledge and experience, from which all members can learn and benefit.

To date, I have written two anthologies of poetry—Peigi’s Persuasions, and Peigi’s Ponderings—both written under the pen name of Peigi MacWhorter. My first work of fiction is Harper Malouf — A Murder Mystery, which I wrote under the pen name of Catherine A. De Guise. I self-published all these books through Kindle Direct Publishing.
