C.P. Florez

I believe in the power of words, and the stories that document the bonds to our heritage, our families, and our communities—our tragedies and our joys. For twenty-five years, I worked as a teacher, counselor, and youth advocate. Through these experiences, I have gained valuable insights into the human condition. I write fiction, and I like to think that my debut novel, The Daughter Bond, reflects what I have learned in a way that is thought-provoking and engaging.
I was born in NYC to Puerto Rican parents who did not speak English. Bilingualism and growing up in an urban setting significantly informed my writing.
Sometimes, I write poetry. Two of my poems were published in The Ravens Perch, an acclaimed literary magazine. Apart from writing, I enjoy traveling and have visited four continents, as well as many of the world’s major museums.
In 2015, I moved to Tennessee, and living closer to nature and a slower pace of life was just what I needed to concentrate on my writing.
I’m an avid reader, and my taste in books is eclectic. My favorite genres are historical fiction and, to unwind, suspense and spy thrillers. Favorite authors: Lisa See, Robert Grisham, and Stephen King.
