June meeting of the Authors Guild of Tennessee
The Authors Guild will next meet on June 2, 2022 at the Faith Lutheran Church in Farragut. The social session will begin at 10:30 a.m. and the business meeting at 11:00.
Visitors are welcome.*
Our special speaker will be our long-time member Art
Stewart. Art is a scientist, science-educator, and poet. His science-inspired poetry has appeared in more than a dozen journals, including Journal of the American Medical Association, Eclectic Literary Forum, Lullwater Review, Cultural Studies in Science Education, Rattle, Big Muddy: A Journal of the Mississippi River Valley, and Chemical and Engineering News, among others. He was a 1997 Tennessee Poetry Prize winner and a 2013 inductee into the East Tennessee Literary Hall of Fame for poetry.
Over the past 20 years, he has authored 8 books of poetry, each strongly aligned with an aspect of science. From a science-as-a-profession perspective, Art graduated from Michigan State University, and worked at Oak Ridge National Laboratory for 17 years as a Group Leader, Senior Scientist and Science Leader. He then retired, and worked for 11 years as a science education programs manager for Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education in Oak Ridge, then retired again to help stand up a NSF-funded water- and wastewater technology Associates Degree program at Pellissippi State Community College, Hardin Valley campus.
He now provides effective science writing seminars and workshops to science-intern students at various Department of Energy facilities. He and his wife, the effervescent Monty Ross, live in Lenoir City.
