K-9 On Board Series

Children's Literature

Since childhood, helping children find their talents has been the driving force behind my dreams. Wise teachings from my family, poised me in a position of compassion; a place of steadfastness that I am grounded in today. I will not say that this journey has been easy. But, I can say, it is worth the trials and tribulations that I have faced.
Finding out through the years of volunteer work with the Department of Human Services and other organizations, I realized how successful children could be with proper training and direction; I knew that I could to do something to aid underprivileged children.
I chose this journey whole heartedly on October 30, 2003. On that day everything changed in my life. I realized that I was tired of just “acquiring things”. I was alone and needed something more to achieve my divine purpose.
These thoughts were the fire that put me on the course of writing this children’s novel; a message of how one can obtain true happiness by understanding one’s reason for being. Through the course of 10 years, I hand-painted over eighty illustrations, composed music, narrated the book with sound effects, wrote the first and second volume of K-9 On Board, raised three German Shepherd puppies, while holding down a full-time job. However, my weekends, evenings after work and holidays were filled with creativity that made this dream come to fruition.
Since then, I am exploring different avenues to reach children in need. Experience taught me hands-on teaching is the most effective way to learn. I am presently working on the plans and foundation for a learning center for children named, “The Door Of Hope”. This center will provide a place to help broaden the minds of the youth of this world and generations to come.
I love spending my time in these endeavors which are my reason for being. I hope you enjoy my works.

Interview with Author Cinthia Stafford

What inspired you to write a children’s book?

Throughout my life, I have always loved to help children. Due to my dream of opening the “Door of Hope” Children’s Learning Center, I have a message to share with children of all ages that will help build that facility.

How did you derive the names of your characters?

My family members somewhat match each character; I added a twist with double-barrel names to add charisma and charm.

When did you begin painting and how did that evolve?

My mother involved me in all phases of the arts. I began painting when I could hold a paint brush; creating is natural to me.

What is your full time profession and how did you get into it? How long?

For twenty-eight plus years, I have thoroughly enjoyed my work as a Clinical Aesthetician. My mother was very instrumental in my desire to help people have beautiful, healthy skin; so, I passed the knowledge forward by opening Your Image Skin Care Clinic.

Most first time books are usually autobiographical, people write what they know. How much of your book is autobiographical?

I have a large, animated family and three German Shepherds. We always celebrated everyone’s birthday by telling funny stories about them throughout the years. So, much of my book is childhood memories with a bit of fantasy to add to creating the festoons.

Were you trained as a musician? Yes, by my mother. I am blessed by the ability to read and produce both instrumental and vocal music at first sight, better known as prima vista.

Yes, by my mother. I am blessed by the ability to read and produce both instrumental and vocal music at first sight, better known as prima vista.

It sounds like your family has taught you many life lessons that you have passed on. Would you want to elaborate?

My grandfather John Berry taught us ALL one main lesson in life and that is: “Give a man a fish, feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, feed him for a lifetime.”

It seems like yesterday, that a full year has passed, since I released my book on my wonderful grandfather’s birthday, in 2014. A year filled with wonderful surprises, sales, compliments and walking the road less travelled of a self-publisher; it was totally worth all the laughter and perspiration! I would like to thank you all for your support and that I am totally happy with the various book signings, like the one at Barnes & Noble. I trust that my book for children of all ages will see another quantum leap in 2015 and beyond.

The 6th Annual Pet Fair at Village Veterinary Medical Center / Dream Katcher Lodge held on Saturday, May 2nd was so much fun! My booth was located next to the German Shepherd Rescue booth at the entrance of Dream Katcher Lodge; it’s a good thing, for me, that they did not bring rescue dogs with them or I would have something else to write about!
