"Swamped"

Okay, folks ... hold on to your hats.Coming this fall will be a new rowdy redneck romp from one of our favorite writers ... B J Gillum, author of "King of the Kudzu" and numerous other humorous novels.

If you have never heard of Swamp Buggy Races, held three times every year (for the past fifty years or so) on the Mile-O-Mud track in otherwise fancy-schmancy Naples, Florida, prepare to be enlightened and entertained by the colorful participants and spectators.

From the country cracker style food tents - fried baloney sandwiches on white bread, for example, to the myriad tattoos on every size and shape of human bodies, to the highly sought after tiara worn by the Swamp Buggy Queen  - B J captures all the sights and sounds (and smells) of this truly American pastime.

I am lucky enough to be collaborating with B J, acting as instigator, editor, and swamp guide.

Although I've been a winter visitor to Naples for the past 5 years, I've never been to the swamp buggy races. Up to now, I thought I'd maintain that attendance record next winter and stay on the quieter side of town, listening to Sunday afternoon band concerts at Cambier Park and dining al fresco on 5th Avenue in the evenings.

Now, I see what I've been missing. Maybe, after reading yours and BJ's book, I'll get me a "I've Got Mud in my Blood" t-shirt and a pair of camo pants to fit in. Then I'll catch a ride on a Harley Hog to the swamp to say howdo to y'all and take in the action. (Can I bring a bottle of chilled chardonnay and a nice mesclun salad?)

Wayne Zurl GUESS WHAT’S COMING by Kaye George

Aha! And to whom do they rent the room? And what influence does this mysterious lodger have on our young woman? Transplant this to Thirsk in Yorkshire and it sounds like an episode of Masterpiece Mystery. Can't wait for the release.

“The Darkest Hour” by yours truly, Kaye George, is set in my own town of Farragut (which is part of Knoxville TN) and I hope has enough of a twist for you. A young woman's judgment is eclipsed by her intense inner desires when her husband decides to ...

Well done, Adele! You had me going all the way through and I laughed out loud at the end. What a nice memory for Mother's Day. Thanks.
