Interview with Author

What do you think makes your book unique?

Each story is accompanied by a song. I love the songs in The Parable Patch. They serve to unite each story with the truths of the actual biblical parables as told by Jesus.

Where did you get the idea for your story collection?

Although I was very young, I still recall the magic moment the symbolism in C.S. Lewis’ The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe became clear to me. The sweetness of the discovery brought tears to my eyes. I wanted young children to experience that same literary delight when they realized that one of my stories reminded them of something precious that they had heard before.

Explain the process that led you to publish these stories and songs?

I had actually written the stories and songs years ago to tell to my own daughter when she was a child. My audience increased as I shared them with her friends. For several years I have included them in storytelling performances in numerous venues. A few years ago, I met one of the authors in the Authors Guild of Tennessee. Adele Roberts, author of The Adventures of Sammy the Skunk, encouraged me and helped me take the steps to put the book into publication.

Now that The Parable Patch is in publication, what do you hope to achieve with your book?

My hope is that the availability of the book in print will open up more performance opportunities for me as a musician and storyteller. I am also passionate about parents learning the benefit of reading aloud to their children. I would love for my book to be a resource to encourage literacy in young children.

Do you have future goals regarding your book?

Making professional recordings of the songs using the children’s voices is my first action item. Reproducing each story separately as an enhanced e-book with the recorded song is another goal. I have also begun the first story for my next title, Fresh Pickings from the Parable Patch.
